HOUSE NEAR BEACONSFIELD
This was a particularly unhappy Edwardian house. It featured a front door into the main living room, a lightwell to transfer cold into the centre of the house, and a nasty servants’ stair meandering around a collection of asbestos insulated heating pipes. We moved the front door to the west elevation, forming a new hallway with an adjacent two-storey stairwell surmounted with a large rooflight.
